eSIMs – All your questions, answered.

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a tiny chip installed in your device that connects to the mobile network, similar to a physical SIM.

Most flagship devices are dual SIM, having both an eSIM and a “pSIM” (physical), with increasingly more devices adopting the new technology due to its convenience.

What is an eSIM

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a tiny chip installed in your device that connects to the mobile network, similar to a physical SIM.

  • It cannot be physically removed or replaced
  • During set-up, an eSIM profile is loaded onto your device through an internet connection
  • The eSIM profile contains the same information previously stored on a physical SIM

Why should I switch to eSIMs?

  • No more plastic SIM cards — environmentally friendly, more flexibility, less logistics
  • Digital – activation is easy as we send the eSIM straight into the inbox
  • Reusable – there is no need for a SIM swap for a device change/upgrade
  • No need for multiple devices – have two lines on the same device (for ex business number and personal number)

The Main eSIM Features

Works on any device that is unblocked (like “pSIM”)
Works with any voice and data price plans used on smartphones and tablets
No impact on the BAU selling process of devices and tariffs,
No cost, no changes to the price plan guides; updates made to Mobility Service Terms
Secured solution – QR code becomes inactive after the number is activated, so it can’t be used as long as the connection works on the device. When the user deletes the eSIM from the device to move it to another, the QR code becomes reusable.
Customers must know their number/CTN to access the QR code. The new allocated CTNs are emailed separately. That is not required for sim swap and ported connections where Customers know their own numbers.
Device Change – no SIM swap required
